‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry to speak on addiction

The audience members cheered when they heard the theme song play from NBC’s long-running series “Friends” on Thursday evening at the Nicholas Sparks University Lecture Series (ULS) event.

Following the theme song and a brief montage of clips from the popular television show that ran for 10 years and has been broadcast in several countries around the world, ULS representatives announced Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on “Friends,” as the third speaker for this semester’s series.

Perry is known for an acting career that has earned both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, but is expected to speak about his personal struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, his philanthropy and his work as an advocate for national drug policy. Perry’s ULS event will be held in the USF Marshall Student Center Ballroom on April 8 at 8 p.m.
