Bulls come up short to WVU

Despite ending the regular season with a loss, the USF men’s soccer team entered the Big East tournament looking to earn another conference crown.

Instead, the Bulls (9-5-4) came up short against West Virginia (10-6-2), losing 2-1 in the tournament’s first round.

The Mountaineers got off to a quick start, opening the game with a goal in the 17th minute by sophomore Uwem Etuk. USF tied the game at 1-1 with a header off a corner kick by redshirt junior midfielder Bernardo Anor in the 33rd minute.

West Virginia restored its lead and scored the game-winner on a goal by sophomore Eric Schoenle in the 50th minute.

The Bulls took 10 shots and committed 11 fouls in the match.

With the Bulls exiting early from the tournament, they must now wait to see if they will earn a bid to the NCAA tournament.
