Lawyer asks judge to set bail forhiccup girl
ST. PETERSBURG – A young Florida woman known for unstoppable hiccups who is now charged with murder is asking a judge to set her bail.
Jennifer Ann Mee and her attorney John Trevena appeared before a judge Tuesday and asked him to set $50,000 bail. The judge said he will issue a ruling Friday.
Mee is charged with first-degree murder after police say she lured a 22-year-old man to a vacant home where he was robbed and shot. Authorities say they do not believe Mee fired the gun.
Mee was briefly in the spotlight in 2007 because she couldn’t stop hiccuping. The hiccups lasted for about five weeks and stopped as mysteriously as they started.
Trevena says she has Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurological disorder that can cause involuntary movements and speech problems.
