UP makes arrests in another suspected bicycle theft

University Police (UP) arrested three males and impounded one bicycle in an incident Thursday at  the Embassy Suites on campus. This is after a string of bicycle thefts that began in May.

Officers took 18-year-old Michael Pope and two juveniles into custody, said UP spokeswoman Lt. Meg Ross.

Ross said UP received a call from James Steere, an Embassy Suites employee, around 1:36 a.m. Steere said the three males were acting suspicious.

Steere was unavailable for comment.

UP impounded the stolen bicycle but has not identified its owner. Ross said the three males were not charged with theft.

Detailed information about the case was withheld because two suspects were juveniles, but Ross said all three suspects were charged with loitering or prowling.

Pope was also charged with possession of burglary tools and was taken to Hillsborough County Jail, she said.

Ross said one of the juveniles was sent to the Juvenile Assessment Center and the other was released to a parent or guardian.
