Coaching search ends, Leavitt hires Tresey

Former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Joe Tresey accepted the offer to join USF as defensive coordinator, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Tresey came to Tampa on Tuesday for a second interview with USF coach Jim Leavitt. He will replace Wally Burnham, who left two weeks ago to take the same position at Iowa State.

Tresey, 50, was fired after last season by Cincinnati Coach Brian Kelly over philosophical differences, after Tresey led the Bearcats to the 25th ranked scoring defense in the country last season.

Tresey will have less than one week to prepare for spring practices, which begin on Monday.

The Bulls will play their spring game on April 11 at Raymond James Stadium.
