Gas prices drop

Experts say that the rest of the country should see lower than $3 a gallon prices in a few weeks, but in Tampa, these prices are already dropping — like at Citgo gas station, located at Fletcher Avenue and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.

Cars lined up around the station Sunday, as people waited to pay $2.99 a gallon. Nearly three months ago, on July 16, Tampa Bay had hit its highest recorded average price — $4 a gallon, according to AAA.

This drop in cost came after oil fell to its lowest price in 13 months on Friday, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The drop in oil price mirrors the stock market drop, said Phil Flynn, energy analyst at Alaron Trading Corp. in Chicago.

“There’s a total lack of confidence. It’s fear driving more fear,” he told the AP.
