Men’s tennis looking for first Big East title

South Florida’s men’s tennis team (12-5, 2-0) will host the Big East Conference Championships this weekend at the USF Andros Courts.

USF is 12-1 at home this season and No. 40 in the country. The teams come into the Big East Conference holding the No. 3 seed and is on the edge of making the NCAA tournament.

The Bulls hope to lock up the automatic NCAA tournament bid that comes with winning the Big East conference. To do that, USF will likely have to get past No. 2 seeded Louisville, ranked No. 38 nationally, and No. 1 seeded Notre Dame, the nation’s No. 33 ranked team.

“We’ve been working real hard for the conference championship and we hope people come and support us. It definitely helps,” coach Don Barr said.

USF faces the No. 6 seeded Georgetown Hoyas in the Quarterfinals at noon Friday on the USF Andros Courts. The winner of that match will play in the Semifinals against No. 2 seeded Louisville or No. 7 seeded St. John’s at noon Saturday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

The Big East Men’s Tennis Tournament Final will be Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
