UP finds man with guns on campus

University Police found a 47-year-old man with two firearms as he slept in his truck in a University parking lot early this morning. At 3:48 a.m. UP officers arrested Cloal Leatherman, a non-USF affiliated construction worker, for felony possession of a firearm on school property. According to UP spokeswoman Lt. Meg Ross, Leatherman was approached by officers after he parked in a staff parking spot in the University Police Department’s parking lot. The officers found a loaded .38-caliber pistol, a “Snake Charmer” .410-caliber shotgun, a 6-inch survival knife and three different types of ammunition in the pick-up. According to Ross, there didn’t appear to be any imminent threat posed by Leatherman, who indicated that he had no permanent residence. “There was no indication he was planning on using (the guns),” said Ross. “He had them, but he was not threatening.”
