Neutral Milk Hotel

OK, some people are more familiar with the band’s album On Avery Island (and hate it), but this is a far cry from that CD. While it could loosely be described as an acquired taste, it’s absolutely brilliant. I suppose one could call it folksy, but not in the way you’d call Bob Dylan folksy. Also, the CD tells a vague, metaphorical story, so one should definitely listen to it in order, as that’s the way the singer intended it. It’s not very popular, so the CD can be difficult to find, but a dedicated Internet search should turn up a copy.
