MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME TIME

No. 15 Marquette (18-4, 5-2) vs. USF (11-10, 2-5) When: Sun., 2 p.m. Where: Sun Dome TV/Radio: None; 1250 AM

Coming off its best performance since entering the Big East, beating Rutgers 62-40 on Wednesday, the men’s basketball team seeks another victory when it squares off against No. 15 Marquette on Sunday.

The victory against Rutgers was the Bulls’ second conference win this season, already surpassing the total from last year.

Kentrell Gransberry has established himself as one of the conference’s top centers and is the only Bull averaging a double-double with 14.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He recorded his seventh double-double of the season during the Rutgers game with 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead USF.

Marquette is riding a five- game winning streak and has already defeated some of the biggest names in college basketball this season: Duke, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Louisville and West Virginia.

During the Golden Eagles’ last outing against Seton Hall, guards Wesley Matthews and Jerel McNeal scored 22 points apiece to help defeat the Pirates 89-76.

Marquette leads the all-time series 12-2 and during the meeting between the teams last season, the Golden Eagles recorded a 66-64 victory at the Bradley Center.

The Bulls’ lone Big East Conference victory came last season against then-No. 20 Georgetown at the Sun Dome. A victory Sunday would be a huge step for the Bulls to earn a berth in the conference tournament at the end of the season. Keep an eye on: Marquette guard Dominic James. The sophomore leads the team in scoring (16.5 points per game) assists (4.6) and minutes played (32.7).
