Bulls place sixth at ASU

The USF men’s golf team finished in the middle of the pack at the final tournament of the regular season.

The Bulls placed sixth out of 13 teams at the Arkansas State University Indian Classic, held at the Ridge Point Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark., Monday and Tuesday.

Jay Cavanagh led USF with a score of 215 in the 54-hole tournament to earn a tie for fifth place. Cavanagh shot 75 in the first round and a career-best 65 in the second round Monday, putting himself two shots off the lead and the team in third place at that point. Cavanagh shot 75 in the final round.

Other USF scores included Ricky Carrillo (222, 16th), Tele Wightman (224), Ryan Shears (230) and Brad Quiri (238).Arkansas State, the host team, won the tournament with a total of 869, while South Alabama’s Gareth Maybin took medalist honors with a score of 210.

The Bulls will stay in-state for their next meet, the Conference USA Championship, teeing off Monday at The Club at Hidden Creek in Navarre.
