USF baseball sweeps Tulane for second AAC series win

The Bulls took their first weekend series sweep of the season and notched their second consecutive conference series win against Tulane.
Corey Braun led South Florida (16-9, 5-1 AAC) with another stellar outing, tossing his first complete game shutout Friday night.
The Bulls out scored the Green Wave 8-6 Saturday and 10-3 Sunday.
Braun dealt nine scoreless innings against the Green Wave (17-11, 2-4 AAC) in the Bulls’ first complete-game shutout since 2021 – when Collin Sullivan dealt seven innings versus Memphis in April that year.
Carlos Jacome, who went 2-for-7 in the series, said Braun’s leadership on the mound took some pressure off the offense.
“Whenever he’s on the mound, we know he’s gonna give us a great game,” Jacome said.
Braun fanned six and only gave up a pair of hits – one in the fifth and another in the eighth.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, South Florida batters, who whiffed six times, pieced three runs off seven hits.
Marcus Brodil went 5-for-10 over the weekend.
He said practice leading up to the game helped boost the team’s offensive production.
“As long as you prepare and come to work every day, prepare yourself for the game, you’re gonna do great things,” Brodil said.
The Bulls pulled ahead in Saturday’s match to secure its second consecutive conference series.
South Florida went back and forth with Tulane and was tied with four runs each in the fourth, but the Bulls took a commanding lead with a four-run fifth.
Rafael Betancourt hit an RBI single with two on and two outs before Lance Trippel knocked a three-run homer into leftfield.
The Green Wave tried to come back with a pair of runs in the sixth, but South Florida relievers kept Tulane batters at bay.
On Sunday, the Bulls completed the sweep with big rallies in the fourth and fifth.
In the bottom of the fourth, Brodil nailed an RBI double to centerfield and was followed by a two-run homer by Jacome.
The Bulls put up four more in the next frame with a bases-clearing double by Brodil, who was driven in by a Jacome RBI double.
Jacome said the Bulls will carry that preparation mindset into practice this week.
“As Coach Hannah says, we always gotta get better. We’re gonna enjoy this one today, because it’s a big sweep,” he said. “But then tomorrow, we just gotta get right back to work.”
The Bulls will host Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. Tuesday and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Bulls Unlimited.
