USF baseball bounces back in first home series win since opening weekend

The Bulls bounced back from their back-to-back series losses over the weekend with a pair of wins over Maryland.
USF flipped their usual script, pulling out wins on Saturday and Sunday. The wins marked the first time this season USF (9-8) won on both days.
In Friday night’s game, junior pitcher Corey Braun struggled uncharacteristically – giving up 5 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings.
Braun has started for the Bulls on Fridays and with much success. He pitched in the last four series-openers, boasting a 2-0 record on Fridays.
On offense, the Bulls struggled heavily. Of their two runs, one scored on a passed ball and another on a triple.
The Bulls had been strong on Fridays coming into their series against Maryland (10-10), boasting a 4-0 record to open their weekend series.

Going into the second game of the series, the Bulls offense wasn’t a problem.
Junior infielder Matt Rose and junior outfielder Ryan Pruitt boasted a pair of home runs that would put the Bulls over top of the Terrapins.
The Bulls’ bats were solid in the clutch, racking up 4 RBI on just 5 hits.
On the mound, junior pitcher Bryce Archie relieved for the Bulls and dominated.
Archie, who has served primarily as a starter this season, retired 11 straight batters through four innings. Archie pitched six innings and got his first win of the season.
The pitch selection for the two-sport athlete diversified, as he strayed away from his upper-90s fastball.
The Bulls won in a close 4-3 affair, marking their first Saturday win since Feb. 22.
In the rubber match, the diamond was all for the Bulls.
In the first inning, two pitchers for the Terrapins walked four runs home. The Bulls drew 16 walks throughout the game.
South Florida’s offensive attack was fueled by senior infielder Sebastian Greico, who went 3-4 with a pair of RBI.

DeCardenas gave up three hits and another three runs, mostly keeping the Terrapins at bay.
