USF’s weaknesses were exposed in its match up against their I-4 rivals. Coach Mitch Hannahs said UCF is simply a better team than the Bulls (6-5) right now. But since it is early enough in the season, USF has time to get into shape.
The Bulls had a strong start to the series, finishing with UCF (8-3) early with a 13-3 mercy-rule win. Hannahs credited left-hander Corey Braun for the strength displayed against the Knights Friday.
By Saturday and Sunday, Hannahs didn’t have the southpaw starters to put on the bump. He said UCF swung well against Bulls’ righties.
Saturday’s 12-1 mercy-rule loss was a stark contrast to Friday’s dominating win. The Bulls couldn’t keep up with Knight bats, which put up a six-spot in the first frame.
Sunday’s loss was the same, UCF took an early lead and sent the Bulls home early with a 12-2 rout in the rubber match.
Looking ahead to a solo game against FGCU Wednesday and weekend home series against Villanova, Hannahs said the Bulls need to improve on all fronts.
