OPINION: These activities at USF are sure to get you out of a rut

The start of the semester can induce a lot of things– stress, excitement, nervousness and tears.
It can often feel like a lot, especially if all I did for the past three weeks was “bed rot.” Sometimes the best way to get out of this new semester rut is to go out and do fun activities.
So here are my top 6 activities to kick off the semester for USF students:
1. Visit the Recreation and Wellness Center (REC)
With the swipe of my USF Student ID, I can venture my way into the REC .
The REC at USF offers a variety of activities ranging from open basketball courts to the new bouldering wall.
My personal favorite is the group fitness class options, like line dancing and yoga.
Recently, I have been looking to try out some new fitness classes like Zumba and barre classes.

Going with a group always gives my friends a new way to alleviate the stress we all have during the upcoming semester.
2. See the Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Gardens on campus is one of my top favorite to-do activities at USF. There are activities such as yoga, walking trails and club events, such as painting.
It recently reopened after the shutdown due to the hurricanes this past fall.
It truly is a great atmosphere to reset for the beginning of the semester. My favorite spot is the benches that overlook the river.
3. Show support for Bulls basketball
Going to a basketball game at USF is a great way to show school spirit. Last season, I got to watch as the men’s basketball program had one of their best seasons in USF history.
I am a huge sports fan so I love going to watch both teams play at the Yuengling Center here on campus.
4. Visit the Contemporary Art Museum
I am a big museum lover. Whether I want to learn more about the art showcased or just want to appreciate it, the Contemporary Art Museum is the place to be.
From January 17th to March 8th the Contemporary Art Museum is showcasing “X Factor: Latinx Artists and the Reconquest of the Everyday.”

It is free admission for all visitors, so it is perfect for a visit in between classes or for a couple of hours during the weekend.
5. Go to an Arts and Crafts social
Bullsconnect is my best friend when it comes to on-campus activities.
Some of my favorites are the arts and crafts socials. Thursday, the Acts of Kindness Club is holding a vision board night in the Marshall Student Center in room 3707.
I have done so many activities from tote bag painting to curating a dream board. These events center around creative activities and are great for meeting fellow Bulls.
6.Play late-night volleyball
USF not only has multiple school run activities but also a multitude of outdoor courts. USF students can take advantage of the cold weather by playing on these courts, whether that is basketball or tennis.
My personal favorite are the beach volleyball nets that are perfect for a late night volleyball session with your friends.
As my to-do list grows, these activities help me stay on track. Even if my only goal is to finally get out of bed, these activities will help me combat everything this new semester throws at me.
