Police dig up Fla. yard to solve murder case

ORLANDO – Police in Florida dug up a backyard in hopes of finding evidence that may solve a 7-year-old murder.

Winter Park detectives dug up the backyard in a west side neighborhood of Orlando on Monday. They believe it may help them find who killed Cheryn McGillicuddy, a 39-year-old massage therapist who was shot to death in 2003 while fighting off an attacker in her Winter Park apartment.

Winter Park police Lt. Wayne Farrell says detectives found items of interest in the yard and removed them, but he would not say what that included.

Farrell said the agency had received a recent tip but wouldn’t say what that was.

McGillicuddy’s case was featured last month on “America’s Most Wanted.” It reported that police had never recovered a weapon.
