UP: USF safe from sinkhole

A sinkhole that opened up on 50th Street on Sunday has yet to affect the USF campus, said University Police (UP) spokeswoman Lt. Meg Ross.

“The hole has yet to reach campus, and I don’t expect for it to reach campus,” she said. “No traffic barriers are in place.”

According to the Associated Press (AP), the sinkhole swallowed a car and forced 11 families to evacuate the Bordeaux Village condominium complex, located on the east side of the USF campus.

When the sinkhole opened, it measured about 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said to the AP. However, it is still growing.
