USF assistant lands head coaching job at Air Force
USF women’s basketball assistant Andrea Williams, who helped the Bulls to a WNIT championship in 2009, will be introduced as head coach of Air Force today after interviewing for the position last week.
Williams will look to rebuild a program that went 3-27 last season under former coach Ardie McInelly.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity and one that kind of popped up out of nowhere recently,” Williams said to the Tampa Tribune. “I like the vision of the program and see this opportunity as a perfect fit. I’m excited and ready to hit the ground running.”
Williams, 38, spent the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons at USF under current coach Jose Fernandez, following a four-year stint with Jacksonville. Williams also was an assistant at the University of Tampa for three years from 1999 to 2002 after spending two seasons as coach of Waynesburg University, a private school in Pennsylvania.
