Oracle Insight: matchups to watch for FSU-USF
Quarter Backs
With 20 career passing attempts, USF redshirt freshman B.J. Daniels makes a tough first start at FSU, while the experienced Christian Ponder is a two-year starter with more than 100 attempts this season.
Secondary Receivers
The Bulls are banged up in the defensive backfield, with two starters, sophomores Jerrell Young (broken arm) and Quenton Washington (ankle), possibly out with injuries. USF still has senior corner Jerome Murphy. Senior Richard Goodman leads FSU with 182 yards receiving this season.
Offensive/Defensive line
FSU has always been known for an athletic defensive line. Junior defensive end Markus White has seven tackles this year in three starts. USF has a very inexperienced offensive line, but junior Jake Sims has 13 career starts.
Special Teams
In big games, special teams are crucial and a field goal could change the outcome. FSU has freshman Dustin Hopkins, who was 2-for-3 in the 54-28 stomping of BYU. USF has junior Eric Schwartz, who replaces senior Delbert Alvarado.
Colors
Two colors will dominate Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday: green and white. The FSU athletics department is calling for a “white out.” In contrast, the USF athletics department is calling for all fans to wear green. USF is expecting a record road crowd.
