The USF women’s tennis team starts an arduous four matches in four days today against Stetson Hatters, the Winthrop Eagles, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Georgia Bulldogs. Three of those four matches are going to be played in Atlanta, Ga., today through Sunday, so the ladies’ toughness on the road will be put to the test. That toughness will especially be tested against the Yellow Jackets, who are the defending national champions.
Coach Agustin Moreno believes the team is in good shape and looks forward to playing this string of matches, since he feels it will make the team tougher and better at the end of the season.
“I think we can win at least two matches this weekend, and then maybe even surprise Georgia or Georgia Tech (to finish 3-1),” said Moreno.
USF is hot on the road, as it swept Bethune-Cookman University and the University of North Florida in last weekend’s series.
“I thought we were very ready,” Moreno told gousfbulls.com. “We went there and minded our business.”
Moreno also said UNF had given the team trouble last year. Defeating these kinds of opponents decisively shows how much the team is improving compared to last year.
Facing powerful opponents lets teams know where they stand and how good they really are. For the women’s tennis team, finishing the weekend with a winning record or a win against Georgia Tech could give them enough momentum to go on a winning streak heading into conference play.
