UP to hold weekend DUI checkpoint
University Police will be conducting this semester’s first on-campus DUI checkpoint this weekend.
Starting on Saturday at midnight, UP will “aggressively” search for impaired drivers on campus, according to a press release. The checkpoint will last until 4 a.m. Sunday.
UP did not release the exact location of the checkpoint.
Last semester, UP, in conjunction with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, conducted three checkpoints on campus. No arrests were made during any of the checkpoints.
Although no DUI-related arrests were made last semester, a handful of drivers received tickets for minor traffic violations, such as failure to carry a driver’s license and failure to provide proof of insurance. Officers also awarded gift bags to designated drivers.
Students and staff should expect more checkpoints throughout the semester, UP said.
