Jamie Cullum

While 2005’s Catching Tales is certainly a more polished work and has consequently increased Cullum’s notoriety in the music scene, this sophomore effort offers a greater reward to younger listeners. On tunes such as “Singin’ in the Rain” and “I Get a Kick Out Of You,” Cullum demonstrates his gift for presenting nostalgic standards in a hip, modern fashion, but his original songs are the ones that truly stick with you. On “Twentysomething,” the album’s best track, he perfectly captures the melancholy of finding yourself free from college and wondering what to do with your life. “High and Dry” and “These Are the Days” are also highlights.
