UP finds semiautomatic rifle in dorm room
An unidentified student was charged with a felony for possession of a weapon on school grounds after a University Police officer found a semiautomatic rifle in the student’s dorm room early Tuesday morning.
The officer found the firearm, a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 folding rifle, in Cypress Apartments C at 3:13 a.m. after a resident assistant reported the weapon to UP. UP Support Services and Accreditation Manager Lt. Meg Ross said the student was cooperative with the officer.
UP said the full police report has not been released, as it is still pending.The weapon was impounded, and charges will be filed with State Attorney’s office, according to UP.
The rifle is 30 inches long, blowback operated and fires 9-millimeter cartridges.
No arrest made yet in alleged rape case
While no arrest has been made, UP said Tuesday that the victim of an alleged sexual battery on campus was a student, and the suspect is not affiliated with USF.
The alleged crime occurred Sunday between 7 a.m. and 7:10 a.m. in the Holly Apartments, according to UP.
Four forcible rapes and six non-forcible rapes have been reported on campus in the past three years.
