USF welcomes new interim deans
USF is welcoming two new interim deans to the Tampa campus for fall.
Dr. Robert Freidman, who chairs the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute’s department of Child and Family Studies, will step up as interim dean of the institute. He is replacing Dr. David Shern.
Freidman is a clinical psychologist with a doctorate from Florida State. According to a USF press release, he was “instrumental in developing the USF graduate certificate in Planning, Evaluation and Accountability.”
USF will be conducting a national search for candidates to fill the position permanently.
Sunil Saigal has been appointed interim dean of the College of Engineering, where he is filling the post left vacant by former dean Louis Martin Vega.
Saigal holds a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from Purdue University. Prior to his appointment as interim dean, Saigal was chair of the department of civil and environmental engineering at USF.
According to a USF press release, “Under Saigal’s leadership in civil and environmental engineering … the Center for Modeling of Hydrologic and Aquatic Systems (CMHAS) has developed highly innovative integrated hydrologic models that predict the state of water resources in the state of Florida and are now being applied nationwide.”
USF began a national search for a permanent dean in August.
