Sastre’s defense snags C-USA award
After neutralizing preseason Conference USA Player of the Year Kate Gordon in USF’s tie against No. 15 Marquette Friday and holding Florida Atlantic’s offense to six shots on goal Sunday, Stacci Sastre was rewarded with the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week award.
On Friday, the sophomore defender held Gordon to only one shot in 110 minutes of play. Gordon came into the game with five goals and four assists through Marquette’s first 11 games.
Sastre joins an elite club, as she becomes only the fourth Bull in the program’s seven-year history to receive the Defensive Player honor.
She joins Helen Campbell, Brooke Beck and Jen Wilson as recipients of the award.
