Fields readied for play
Those who have not been around the Sun Dome in recent weeks may be surprised at the changes that have taken place.
On the east side of the dome, workers built a structure made of about four attached trailers. The entire construction took a few weeks.
Michael LaPan, president of Sun Dome, Inc., said the building will be used to house athletic offices temporarily. Those offices will be moved into the new athletic facility upon its construction.
South of the Sun Dome and across Alumni Drive, bulldozers have cleared much of the land including and surrounding the band practice field. According to facilities planning, the clearing is in preparation for construction of three new playing fields, including one that will continue to be used as a band practice area.
Facilities planning did not say when the project will be completed or how much it will cost.
