The eponym of two buildings on the USF Tampa and USF St. Pete campus, U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, the longest-serving House Republican, died Friday night due to complications from a chronic back injury at 82.
The C.W. Bill Young Hall on the Tampa campus, home to the ROTC program, was named after Young, a large proponent of military funding and funding to MacDill Air Force Base. On the St. Pete campus, Young is commemorated with the C.W. Bill Young Marine Sciences complex, which he is credited as having helped realize. Young also helped USF receive more than $16.6 million in federal funding over the past five years, according to a TBO.com article.
