Robots Description

The mechanical wizardry of Japanese toy makers is presented in this remarkable collector's album, ROBOTS Tin Toy Dreams. Assembled from the incredible 10,000-toy collection of Teruhisa Kitahara, this whimsical volume features more than 250 full-color photographs of the most marvelous creations of madcap Space Age gadgetry, from early Buck Rogers - type rocketships to spacemen, monster-robots, and mechanized space vehicles. Along with many of the tin toy robots are examples of the wonderfully illustrated boxes in which they toys were originally packaged and full-color reproductions of the famous robot-monster movie posters that inspired many of the toy creations. ROBOTS Tin Toy Dreams is a nostalgic look at the most colorful toys of the recent past and , quite possibly, a fanciful look into the future. Unquestionably the favorite toy of the fifties was the robot. Robots were strong and capable of practically anything with their fire-shooting chests and X-ray eyes. Robby, Mr. Atomic, Mr. Mercury-singlehandedly they fought the forces of evil;p the mind boggled at what these mechanical supermen could do. And in no time, the moving picture industry and TV were turning their emerging talents to bringing such classics as Forbidden Planet (1956) and The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). Creations of tinplate, flashing lights, and rasping gears, toy robots are the enduring friends from childhood for a generation who grew up in the 1950s. For as little as a flashlight battery and some imagination, they could transform the world into one of fantasy and adventure.
