University Police (UP) received a delayed report of a sexual battery early Sunday morning.

A female resident of Juniper Poplar hall was reportedly raped in a dorm room in the residence hall at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

UP Public Information Officer Lt. Charlotte Domingo said the victim was acquainted with the male suspect, but no arrest has been made yet. The incident is currently under investigation.

Domingo said students should take precautionary  steps to identify dangerous situations. Students should always report suspicious activity immediately to UP, she said.

“Pay attention to your instincts,” she said. “If your instincts tell you to be uncomfortable with a situation, get out of that situation immediately.”

Students can contact the UP dispatch center at 813-974-2628 or 911 in case of emergency.
