George Bush: true servant of America

Seven years later: no terrorist attack.

No one expected the country to remain untouched by terrorist attacks after Sept. 11, 2001. Sadly, the country has taken its freedom, its security and, of course, George W. Bush for granted.

Someday soon, people will come to appreciate the policies that Bush upheld — and that kept the country safe.

Yes, there was an economic crisis during his term, but I challenge anyone to produce a rational explanation of how Bush or any of his conservative policies caused the credit crisis. Indeed, it was the corruption of Wall Street executives along with a natural cycle of growth and recession.

The overconfidence of the new president is quite disappointing.  Taking a train to the capital for the inauguration as Lincoln did and swearing on his Bible? What has Obama actually accomplished to equate himself with such a leader? It seems arrogant for him to already be comparing himself to one of America’s greatest presidents. If Lincoln, the first Republican president, could hear Obama’s tax and foreign policy, he would turn over in his grave. Before being sworn in, Obama was already claiming that he would “heal the nation.” Heal the nation from what?

Yes, the economy is in a recession, but that’s something America can recover from in time. If Obama spends his way out of this economic crisis by giving tax breaks to those who don’t even pay taxes and using more than a trillion dollars in federal spending, this country will spiral into an economic mess that makes this one look like nothing.

Liberals complain about the recession without any objection to the $150 million price of Obama’s inauguration — compared to the $40 million used for Bush’s in 2004, when people claimed Bush spent too much and should’ve given the money to poor countries.

This call for a “united” America must work both ways. It’s only when liberal Democrats are in power that they want a “united” America. When Bush was in office, they eschewed unity. Obama preposterously spoke in his inaugural address of choosing “hope over fear.” Have Americans been in “fear” under Bush? If anything, his clear focus on national security kept fear at bay.

I’m sorry if I haven’t bought my commemorative Obama coin or T-shirt. Watching people scream “Obama, Obama!” in the streets reminded me again that this election was based not on domestic or foreign policy but celebrity status. That’s what Obama is: a celebrity.

Liberals fail to give Bush credit for his accomplishments. Bush is not leaving Obama with a mess — he’s leaving the country safer and more equipped to keep itself secure. He promoted freedom for people all over the world. His policies heavily weakened al-Qaida, and Iraq is inches from a peaceful democracy. Last year, Joe Biden himself credited Bush’s global President’s Emergency Action Program for HIV/AIDS with “(saving) more than a million lives,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Who cares if America has lost prestige in the eyes of some Europeans and Middle Eastern leaders? They were never fond of America in the first place. People all around the world — especially in Africa — respect and cherish the United States. Why do people risk their lives to immigrate into this country? It’s because America is still a beacon of freedom to the world — not the horrid country that liberals have made it seem under Bush.

Regardless of what many may say, Bush was a man of justice and honesty — someone who served his country blessed by almighty God. He was not a politician, but a man seeking the greater good of his country. He can truly return home knowing that he abided by his principles to lead the nation in good conscience. The man is a patriot who toiled for America to give it everything he could.

As Bush said in his farewell address, “The first decade of this new century has been a period of consequence — a time set apart.”

Truly, in the past decade there was no man better suited for office than President George W. Bush.

Funny how fickle people are especially when there are wars going on that involve America. Bush tells America that he's going to take out those who attacked us and he gets the highest ratings ever... as time goes on Americans think about themselves instead of the Iraqis who were under a compassionate president who loved his country... umm... Totalitarian Dictator Sadaam Hussein who no one in America will say wasn't dangerous in of himself. The problem with Iraq was that he could have simply said, "We are going to save these people from this dictator," and maybe at some point we can take care of Sudan and other places (hey Clinton did great in Rwanda right?).

Sorry I hit a tangent, but as the war went on, Bush lost people. After Katrina, the sad truth is that the government hadn't had to deal with a Hurricane Katrina before and maybe Governor Blanco (who had narrow beaten Jindal in 2004) had a hand in what was wrong there as Jindal is now Governor in that state.

Bush wasn't perfect, but when you sit back and look at it all, maybe it wasn't as bad as it could have been or as good as it could have been. Don't forget, America had a lot of money during Bush's time, but pride cometh before the fall, and the people fell down the hill. We will recover from the economic issues at hand, but it won't be because Obama is great.

Anyways, to respond to Frank, what was Ronald Reagan before he was President? A Democratic Georgia peanut farmer who got Americans taken hostage? No, he succeeded said Georgian, namely humanitarian who has done well after his presidency Jimmy Carter. Carter was not popular, and Reagan was once part of Hollywood and Governor of California (Hello Arnold!), then again, his policies of deregulation, using the military to prove a point, and other Conservative actions also taken by a former President (GWB) were quite popular, and he was 69 (almost 70) when he became President and make it all 8 years alive (John McCain look so bad anyone?). Speaking of Arnold, he didn't become a bad Governor all of a sudden if you've watched the News, the economy is just kicking everyone's butt.

Obama won't ruin America, but I don't think he'll take us to new heights either.

Glad to see some one thinking in rational terms. History will see George W. Bush in a different light. I don't know who gets asked about approvals in these aproval rating polls but I have never been asked. I approve of George W Bush, and do not approve of our Governor who has a 70% approval rating? Where does that come from? Obama's stimulas package had an approval rating of under 40% and was passed anyway so Queenie what was your point. People often answer with anger when they can't argue with legitimate point and you really have a lot of anger. Why don't you calm down and read it again and maybe you will see it more clearly. He is correct. And by the way. Pollitical issues is every citizens concern, maybe you should take a lesson.

What is a biomedical major doing writing a column on politics, stick to your major because you sure don’t know jack about politics. The same amount of time you spend on research in your major you would have to spend on politics before you go running your mouth off.
First let me start by saying as much as you like to blame wall street types for our recession, it was Bush that bailed them out. Using taxpayers’ dollars from middle class families. He cut taxes to the rich (!) when we needed the money most, and gave HUGE amounts of money to companies like Halliburton that are taking oil from Iraqis. Bush's claim that everything is okay and keep spending your money was what lead us here. If people just left their money alone, this recession would be okay. You cannot throw money into the economy to make it better. That is bad economics. Trickledown effect does not work. It never has.
That is why there was a recession during the Reagan years. Lincoln was a Republican, but he is part of the reason the republicans of that day turned into democrats, the Whigs
turned into republicans... it had more to do with racial standing and less to do with economic policy than everything. Obama is not trying to compare himself with Lincoln. He
is just doing him. You are just trying to make "liberal" a dirty word. If you were for uniting the country, you wouldn't have to place blame and use labels to classify people. I am NOT a democrat. But vote for who is right for the job. And sometimes it’s hard to vote when "it's like choosing between an asshole and a douche-bag."
As much as you like to let yourself believe that Bush was great, you are in the minority. Bush had horrible approval ratings. What you need to do is take a history lesson and figure out why our party names don't matter because republicans do not have the standpoints they used to and slinging out names doesn't unify at all. Under bush and his cronies the country went under, tax cuts for the richest, his spying illegally on all Americans, his disregard for the constitution, his carelessness, and evil protocol left this country in a shamble, wow if this guy who really didn't serve in the military but for a kitchen help, a liar, war monger, wants to get credit for something he didn't do, then go ahead give credit where it doesn't belong. G.W. Bush should be indicted and sent to jail and his whole administration, so let's not fool ourselves in believing the lies of these politicians they're all a bunch of BULLSHITTERS. So do a little research on Bush and his family and the harm they and the Clinton's have done for the past 40-45 years to this country!!! So sad you're not educated in these matters!!!

How could a true servant of America allow the government to spy on its citizens?

How could a true servant provoke fear, paranoia, and divisiveness amongst citizens?

Nay, George W. Bush was a man blinded by his own paranoia, power, and self-righteousness.

When will Obama travel to the Middle east dressed in his true Muslim garb carrying a white flag of surrender.

This guy will lead this Country down the path of destruction with all the Hollywood elite and their fans behind them.

What is a columnist doing writing this propaganda? I feel a better title for this work would be editorial. Don't push off your crappy, small minded and hate spewing views and pass them off as fact.

You know reading the mixture of comments for this article is humorous. First off, Chris I'm so glad you wrote this article. I'm right there with ya. Bush was a great president, not perfect, but a great president. One person wrote that "The war that Bush lead us into did lead to the credit crisis and our current economic state." Obviously this person is either illiterate, or just doesn't watch the news. But either way I would love for them to explain how the war caused home lenders to give loans to people who couldn't afford them. Or how the war caused the automobile companies to come snivveling to Washington asking for government handouts? How about all the pork that taxpayers spent their money on? Why aren't you blaming that, which was irresponsible spending, not money that goes to our troops and helps feed, cloth and protect those protecting us. So check this out:
$7,556,660 for grape and wine research. (as per 2008 pork barrel spending report.)
Wine research???? I'm sure that was a much better thing to spend $7.5 million on compared to our national security.

Thank you President Bush for keeping us safe.

Anna,
I just have to ask one simple question: do you even know the meaning of "Freedom of Speech"? Newspapers are based completely on this most fundamental right. We might not all agree with each other; even many of he Framers of the Constitution were diametrically opposed to each other. However, they all agreed on one principal, which they wrote into our Bill of Rights: we might not agree with each other's opinions, but we need to defend each other's right to express them regardless.

So, Anna, what is a newspaper for? Would you like to see only liberal bias? What would be the point if the other side cannot be presented? Would you like to shut down the communist publications? The conservative ones? The Muslim ones? The Jewish ones?

Just a couple thoughts.
1) Bush's legacy will be written in 25+ years from now, much like many of our former Presidents, when classified information is publicly realeased.
2) For the record, Bush's approval rating was not the worst of an exiting President. Truman still holds that record,

You pretty much wrote a lot of things that people just don't see in the mainstream media. Amazing. That's a great piece of writing.

"As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our founding fathers ... our found fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all the other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more. "

-from President Barack Obama's inaugural address

This is what right wing nuts and George Bush don't get. We are a country founded on morals and laws. When we do not follow our own creed, we are spitting in the face of our Forefathers.

This small part of his speech shows that Obama has more of an understanding of what America is than any shoot first ask questions later right wing nutjob.

Meh, Bush got some things wrong and some things right. He was sucked into impossible situations, and made some unfortunate (but understandable) reactionary descisions. I still wouldn't have voted for Gore if the choice was presented to me again.

As for Obama: only time will tell whether or not he is cut out to be president. I hope he is.

I am a 61 year old woman and somehow this morning I came across your article
George Bush true servant of america. I was blown away, I have watched as our young people have cursed George Bush, made all sorts of fun about him and have literly "lost" their minds for Obama. I have been fearful of what is happening to my country and then I find your article, and see that you are young and a senior in college and my heart sored! this from someone so young, it gives me hope that there is more young people like yourself somewhere here in America. Please continue to write your article and maybe more people will read them and finaly catch on to what is really happening in our country. Thank you for your article , it has made my day

Scary. Very, very scary.

College students who have experienced little of the real world think Bush was a great president. Why aren't you all fighting his war then?

1) This piece maintains that Bush kept us safe. What about the August 6th, 2001 memo entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US"? It detailed how the attacks on 9/11 would go down and the Bush administration did nothing. As a New Yorker during 9/11, I don't think you can claim the Bush administration kept us safe when an attack of this scale occurred on Bush's watch.

2) The rationalization for how Bush caused the economic crisis? In a word, deregulation.

3) The Lincoln theme to the inauguration was planned before the November election in honor of the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. According to the nonpartisan inauguration planning committee, it would have been the same had Obama or McCain been elected. Please get your facts straight.

i like the article, proud you took a stand. does need a little correction though. the 40 million Bush spent was for the festivities, not including security. the 150 million you listed for Obama includes nearly everything. he did spend 45 million for festivities. both the 40 and 45 were donated funds. now, the problem is, 45 million spent to party at our current economic state. and don't try to plan Bush for the general population overspending. if you are in debt, it's not because he took your credit card and swiped it to buy a newest latest gadget. Since 1930 we have had 11 recessions, the longest in history, 16 months. Historically there is an economic boom afterward. Recessions happen, when the boom hits, remember it's a historical fact and don't praise Obama as the savior.
