The USF baseball team will face Bethune Cookman tonight, leading into conference play come Friday where the Bulls will hope to gain momentum and a strong start in the Big East.

The Bulls (10-10, 0-0) will travel to Daytona Beach to square off against BCU (11-11) in a single game meeting at 6 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Both teams are vying for a win to climb above the .500 mark, but unlike the Wildcats, the Bulls are hoping to do so for the first time this season.

USF is coming off of a weekend sweep versus FAMU, and the team’s ability to score double digits in each victory may be an indicator that its bats are heating up.

“We have to build on this,” coach Lelo Prado said.

Senior outfielder Alex Mendez’s bat has been sizzling. He is currently on a 12-game hitting streak and went 5-11 with five RBI’s against the Rattlers.

Prado said he is relieved to know that Mendez is finding his stroke at the plate.

“I’m happy that he’s getting hot at the right time,” Prado said.

After Tuesday’s game, USF will travel back to Tampa to prepare for its first Big East Conference matchup of the season versus Cincinnati (6-10, 0-0).

The Bulls will begin a three-game set against the Bearcats at 7 p.m. on Friday at USF baseball stadium and action on the diamond will continue through Sunday.
