A two-day boil water notice was lifted on Sunday afternoon after a bacteriological survey confirmed that campus water was safe to drink, according to a notice from USF Physical Plant.
The notice was precautionary, USF spokeswoman Lara Wade-Martinez said, and was implemented after the university received complaints on Friday of murky water that may have been connected to a sinkhole discovered Friday morning behind the USF Federal Credit Union.
“The tests were only precautionary,” Wade-Martinez said. “All tests have come out clear and that the water is safe.”
The sinkhole, she said, is still being evaluated.
Over the weekend, dining halls and Starbucks locations on campus served only bottled beverages. The Department of Housing and Residential Education placed water dispensers in each hall, and residents could request up to three water bottles at a time from the Juniper-Poplar and Holly M information desks.
The notice was conveyed to students via social media and USF websites, Wade-Martinez said.
