Oracle Insight: Three matchups to watch Saturday

J. HARRIS vs. J. MURPHY

The USF secondary has been giving up big passing plays this season. Miami quarterback Jacory Harris needs about 360 more passing yards to jump former quarterback Ken Dorsey for the second most passing yards during a single season in program history. Look for Harris to test cornerbacks Jerome Murphy, Kayvon Webster and Quenton Washington steadily.

OFFENSIVE LINE vs. DEFENSIVE LINE

If the Bulls are looking to cause problems for a very talented Miami team, they may have success by pressuring the Hurricanes’ offensive line, which ranks 95th nationally in sacks allowed. Senior George Selvie, who’s playing his last game at Raymond James Stadium, could be set for a big day. Miami senior tackle Jason Fox, listed at 6-foot-7 and 314 pounds, is a candidate for the Outland Trophy.

D. VAN DYKE vs. C. MITCHELL

USF offensive coordinator Mike Canales was optimistic Tuesday about junior Carlton Mitchell’s chances of playing against Miami. If Mitchell, who’s been sidelined with a high ankle sprain for three weeks, plays, he’ll most likely be matched up with Miami junior cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke, who has two years of starting experience. Despite Mitchell’s absence, he’s still USF’s leading receiver with 542 yards.
