College gets a new name

The College of Visual and Performing Arts has a new name: the College of Arts.

The rename is part of the University’s Structural Realignment Plan. In lieu of last spring’s budget cuts, the University is moving programs around to condense faculty members and resources to help programs improve efficiency.

USF President Judy Genshaft said in a press release that she was proud of the college’s deans and Provost Ralph Wilcox for choosing a name that is visually and intellectually elegant.

The schools housed by the College of Arts include: art and art history, theatre and dance, music and architecture and community design.

The Institute for Research in Art and the Florida Center for Community Design and Research will also be housed under the College of Arts.
