USF Polytechnic closed for the rest of the day

At 1:46 p.m. USF Polytechnic (USFP) sent a text message stating that “USF Poly/Lakeland students, faculty and staff should not return today.”

USF Polytechnic officials don’t have an official response as to why the campus was evacuated, but they attribute it to the sharing of the building with Polk Community College (PCC).

“It’s really a PCC issue,” said Marhall Goodman, chancellor of USFP.

Spokesman for PCC Tom Dowling said that the college closed all of its locations as a security measure.

“We closed in response to a student that made a death threat to a member of the PCC staff,” he said. “We have been told that the person has been apprehended.”

Director for University Advancement David Steele said that the campus is expected to reopen as normal on Tuesday.
