The softball team looks to capture its first tournament championship beginning today in Clearwater at the adidas Invitational.

USF has only allowed one run during a three-game winning streak while improving its record to a season-best nine games over .500.

The Bulls pitching staff has been led by sophomore Cristi Ecks. The Co-Freshman of the Year in 2006 has a record of 5-2, an ERA of 0.33, two shutouts and two saves in 42 innings pitched.

First baseman Danielle Urbanik is batting .370 with two home runs and 10 RBI. Her 17 hits this season share the team lead with Courtney Mosch, even though Urbanik has only appeared in 16 of the Bulls’ 23 games.

Wagner, located in New York, opens its season this afternoon against the Bulls. The Seahawks were selected to finish third in the Northeast Conference by the preseason coaches’ poll.

Last year, Wagner finished with a record of 35-20, and has retained seven all-conference selections from a year ago.

North Carolina is the same team USF defeated 2-1 during last year’s NCAA Regional in Gainesville, Fla.

The Tar Heels are riding an eight-game winning streak while holding their opponents to fewer than five runs each game this season.

Keep an eye on: North Carolina first baseman Jennifer Jacobs. The junior from Tampa leads the Tar Heels with six home runs, 26 RBI and is tied for second with nine walks this year.
