Search firm to conduct AD hunt
USF has decided to hire a search firm to help in the hunt for a new athletic director, Vice President of University Advancement Michael Rierson said in a report in Wednesday’s The Tampa Tribune.
Rierson said several firms are being considered as USF looks for a “top-notch firm.”
The AD position was vacated on Feb. 26 when Lee Roy Selmon resigned to become director of the USF Foundation Partnership for Athletics, a new program that would serve as athletics’ primary fund-raising source.
Rierson and search committee chairman Hinks Shimberg said they hope to recommend a firm to USF President Judy Genshaft and the search committee early next week, the Tribune report said. Rierson said Sunday night that he hopes a new director can be found by “early summer” as USF finalizes its 2005 jump to the Big East.
In 2001, USF paid Carr Sports Associates $15,000 to conduct a search for a new deputy athletic director. USF hired Corey Johnson at the firm’s recommendation, only to later discover Johnson had been forced to resign as Colorado State’s athletic director in 1993. Johnson later resigned and, USF officials called it “very doubtful” Carr Sports Associates would be hired again.
