The Bulls’ win brought the all-time series to 22-5-1 in favor of Saint Louis. The two most recent losses to SLU included a 5-1 embarrassment last season in St. Louis and a 4-3 heartbreaker in 2000 that kept the Bulls out of the postseason. “I think in our hearts we wanted it more. We just wanted a little bit of revenge after the past two years,” said Perkins. … The last time the Bulls defeated SLU was 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 23, 1998. The Bulls went on to share the C-USA regular season crown with the Billikens and win the C-USA Tournament at home. … For the first time in his career, Thwaites failed to score against SLU. He had scored once in each of his previous three games against Saint Louis — all losses. Thwaites was credited with the assist on Gil’s game-winner Saturday. … A small contingent of SLU fans were among the crowd, including Dave and Marliyn Bechler, who drove 240 miles from Valdosta, Ga., to support their team. They, along with SLU Alumni Club Tampa Chapter President Rob Sternowski and his wife, Stephanie, hosted a tailgate in the parking lot outside the stadium, but only the four of them turned up. Rob Sternowski said with 1,000 SLU alums in the Tampa Bay area, he plans to “invade” the Sun Dome Feb. 8 when the USF men’s basketball team hosts the Billikens.
