Shepard lost for season with knee injury
Bulls shooting guard Aiya Shepard will sit out the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury Friday night against TCU. Shepard was fouled on a layup attempt and fell, spraining the posterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. The injury occurred with five minutes, 30 seconds remaining in the Bulls’ 56-53 loss to the Horned Frogs.
“Aiya brings so much to our team every day,” said USF coach Jose Fernandez. “We’re going to miss her contributions on both ends of the court, but most importantly we are concerned about her health.”
At the time of her injury, Shepard was third on the team with 14.1 points per game and third in Conference USA with 3.65 steals per game. Earlier this season she reached the 1,000-point plateau, and she will enter next season as the No. 10 all-time scorer for USF (1,102 points).
Shepard was a second-team All C-USA selection last season after averaging 17.9 points per game, tops on the team and fifth in the league. Her 3.11 steals per game led the league.
